Why take X-Rays? Are they safe?
X-rays are a valuable adjunct to vision and tactile examination of the oral cavity. With modern technology, filtering and digital imaging, radiation dosage of dental x-ray is extremely low and safe. If x-rays are required during pregnancy, please consult with your obstetrician.
How often should I come in for check-ups and a clean?
Typically, every six months unless you experience the sudden onset of uncomfortable symptoms such as pain or bleeding from the gums when brushing or an unexpected injury in a sporting event. Please see our Preventive Dentistry page.
What is a cavity?
A hole in the tooth as a result of acids produced by bacteria in dental plaque.
When should I bring my children to the dentist for their first visit?
Oral care for kids should begin when their first teeth begin to erupt, by gently brushing teeth and gums with a soft brush. Their first visit should take place when all of their deciduous (baby) teeth have broken through – usually around 24-36 months). Please see our Caring for Kids page.
